Ipswich Town are hopeful of sealing the loan return of former Blues striker Jonathan Walters prior to Friday’s loan deadline.

The striker, now 34, has not made a league start for the Clarets since moving from Stoke last summer and has been made available for loan.

We can confirm discussions regarding the move are ongoing but the deal is expected to be completed prior to Friday’s deadline. TWTD first reported the move.

Walters scored 31 goals in 146 appearances for the Blues before joining Stoke for £2.75m in August 2010, having signed for just £150,000 in January 2007.

He fits the experienced, physical, striker mould outlined by manager Paul Hurst in his press conference earlier today.

“We’re looking at someone who has a physical presence, certainly, and, if possible, someone who has experience alongside that,” Hurst said when asked about his search for a striker.

“But at the same time what you want in an ideal world and what you can actually get don’t always come together. We’ll see if we can make something like that kind of deal happen.”
