Ipswich Town will discover their opponents in the first round of the League Cup on Friday afternoon.

The draw for the competition, to be known as the Carabao Cup as part of a new three-year sponsorship deal with the Thai energy drink brand, will be made at 1pm in Bangkok.

Town are one of the seeds for the southern section and will be ball number nine.

Altogether 70 clubs go into the hat, with Championship new boys Hull and Middlesbrough joining the Premier League clubs in round two.

The regionalised draw (south and north) will pit Town against one of: AFC Wimbledon, Barnet, Cambridge, Cheltenham, Colchester, Crawley, Exeter, Forest Green, Gillingham, Luton, Newport County, Northampton, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Stevenage, Swindon, Wycombe Wanderers or Yeovil Town.

The draw will be made live from Bangkok and screened online, including on the competition’s Facebook page, with the ties to be played in the week commencing August 7.

Ipswich have been drawn against Stevenage in three of the past four years, losing 1-0 to them at Portman Road last year, beating them 2-1 at home in 2015 and losing 2-0 at Broadhall Way in 2013.

The Blues lost 1-0 at Crawley in 2014, but reached the third round in 2015 before losing 3-0 at Manchester United.

Mick McCarthy has traditionally made sweeping changes to his team for cup ties during his time in charge.
