Ipswich Town supporters have been reacting to the Blues’ schedule for the 2017/18 campaign following this morning’s Championship fixture release, including the two big East Anglian Derby dates.
Town are preparing for their 16th successive season of second-tier football, with manager Mick McCarthy intending to freshen up his squad following last season’s disappointing 16th-place finish.
He has let go Christophe Berra, Jonathan Douglas, Leon Best, Paul Digby, Steven Taylor and Giles Coke, while Tom Lawrence, Emyr Huws, Toumani Diagouraga, Jonny Williams and Dominic Samuel have seen their loans expire.
The re-build has started with the additions of striker Joe Garner (£1m, Rangers) and defender Jordan Spence (free agent), with young Manchester City winger Bersant Cellina set to join on loan ahead of a return to pre-season training next Monday.
Town fans have been reacting to the fixture list on Twitter this morning, discussing the start/finish, the East Anglian derby games, as well as holiday and midweek matches.
Newcastle, Brighton and Huddersfield were promoted from the Championship last season, while Blackburn, Wigan and Rotherham went down. Replacing them are Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Hull, following their relegation from the Premier League, while Sheffield United, Bolton and Millwall have come up from League One.
