Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy says he is thrilled to have signed right-back Dominic Iorfa on a season-long loan from Wolves.
The 22-year-old has made 83 starts in the Championship for his parent club over the past three seasons and was part of the England Under-21 squad which recently reached the semi-finals of the European Championships.
Wolves are splashing the cash this summer though and have already landed five new defenders, including Ghanian international right-back Ghanian international Phil Ofosu-Ayeh.
Iorfa will compete with Jordan Spence for the right-back slot at Portman Road, with the Blues having allowed teenager Josh Emmanuel to join League One side Rotherham United on loan.
“I’m thrilled to have got Dominic,” McCarthy told the club website. “He is an England U21 international who has played close on 100 league games and knows the Championship well.
“He is very athletic, has got great pace and can play at centre-half as well as right-back and is equally good in both roles.
“With the defenders we already have here in the squad and with Dominic coming in, we have really good options in that area.”
Iorfa said: “It looks like a good training ground and I remember the last time I came here it was a good atmosphere. Whenever I’ve played Ipswich it’s been a tough game and I don’t think we ever beat them, so I know what Ipswich are all about.
“The manager told me he wants to get me on board and said what positions he plans to use me in. He knows I can play centre-half as well as right-back and can give him options if he plays 4-4-2 or 3-5-2.
“He’s confident we can have a good season as a team and maybe push for the play-offs.”
