Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy will have to move players out before he can bring in too many more new faces to Portman Road.

The Blues boss, who has so far signed Rangers striker Joe Garner, free agent Jordan Spence and former loan midfielder Emyr Huws, is close to bringing in winger Bersant Celina, on-loan from Manchester City.

Huws’ former Cardiff team-mate, Tom Adeyemi, who has been released by the Bluebirds, meanwhile, is thought to be mulling over a move to Town or his former club, Norwich, McCarthy keen to add more pace and dynamism to the Ipswich engine room.

Bringing players in costs money, however, and McCarthy has informed certain current squad members that they are available to move on.

On that front, Josh Emmanuel and Kieffer Moore have been linked with loan moves to Rotherham – we understand they were part of the Blues’ failed attempt to lure Millers’ striker Danny Ward to Suffolk.

Reports elsewhere, meanwhile, have suggested that Brett Pitman and Kevin Bru could be made available for transfer, while youngster Kundai Benyu’s future remains unclear, the 19-year-old is nearing a move to Celtic, according to reports in Scotland.

Christophe Berra, Leon Best, Giles Coke, Paul Digby and Jonathan Douglas have already been released by McCarthy, while loanees Tom Lawrence, Dominic Samuel and Jonny Williams have returned to their parent clubs.

“There are signings we have made and others we are trying to sign, and we will have to try to get some people out,” said McCarthy.

“Hopefully we can freshen it up a bit more.”

Asked if owner Marcus Evans still harboured ambitions to reach the Premier League and was ready to back him financially, McCarthy added: “Yes, we all want to get promoted.

“We all want to emulate Huddersfield or Blackpool from years ago, or any other side that maybe got promoted out of the blue.

“We have already spent some money but we are going to have to lose some before we go round signing too many others.

“I have had words with a few of them (Ipswich squad) and something may come of that. If it does then we will change it around and get some other players.

“If not then we will be back with the same, trying to do our best.”
