Ipswich Town are set to make a £1.25m bid for Accrington Stanley striker Kayden Jackson, according to The Sun on Sunday.

The speedy 24-year-old scored 16 goals to help fire the Lancashire club to the League Two title last season and now heading into the final year of his contract.

Bids from Rotherham and Peterborigh are said to have been turned down, with a string of Championship clubs closely monitoring the situation following his highly impressive pre-season.

Stanley chairman Andy Holt has said his former club Barnsley would receive a sell-on fee should he move on.

Town boss Paul Hurst confirmed after Saturday’s 2-1 home friendly defeat to West ham that he had ‘multiple bids’ in for players ahead of his team’s Championship opener against Blackburn Rovers, at Portman Road, on Saturday.

Last season’s 16-goal top-scorer Martyn Waghorn has sat out the Blues’ last two friendlies amidst strong interest from Derby County, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United. The Blues are looking for a fee in the region of £8m.

Hurst, who has said he doesn’t know how that saga will play out, may be looking to sign another striker regardless given Joe Garner has missed virtually the whole of pre-season with a knee problem.

Bradford-born Jackson started out at Swindon after winning their ‘Win a Pro Contract’ but failed to make the breakthrough at the County Ground.

After spells in non-league with Tamworth and Wrexham, he moved to Championship club Barnsley before being immediately loaned to League Two club Grimsby Town for a season. That led to last summer’s switch to Accrington for an undisclosed fee.
