Former Ipswich Town favourite Kieron Dyer has been released by Queens Park Rangers.

The midfielder apparently had a clause in his contract which was activated by QPR who said he has left with immediate effect.

Dyer, who returned to Ipswich on loan from West Ham for a month in March 2011, made only four starts for the Londoners and four substitute appearances.

Blighted with injury problems since leaving Ipswich, Dyer picked up an injury after only seven minutes of his QPR debut on the first day of last season and didn’t play again until August last year.

He scored his only goal for the club last weekend in his side’s 1-1 FA Cup third round draw at home to West Brom.

Rangers manager Harry Redknapp told the club’s website: “I’d like to thank Kieron for his services to QPR.

“If he can stay clear of injuries I’m sure there’s clubs out there that will offer him the chance to play football.

“He wasn’t in my plans and I think he’s got something to offer someone, so we wish him all the best.”

  • He never really recovered from that broken leg he suffered playing for Town. Shame, as he had it all at an early age and was probably the best player we have produced for some time. Never capitalised.

  • He's played 42 games in the period 2007 - 2012. That means an average of 7 games per year whilst earning around £50K minimum per week. Nice work if you can get it, must talk a good story huh?

  • Poor old Dyer, couldn't have had a more injury prone career. Anyway good luck wherever he goes, as long as it isn't Ipswich again.
