BLACKBURN goalkeeper Frankie Fielding has sensationally been called up to the full England squad for tonight’s match against Hungary, despite having no Premier League experience.

Fielding, who is fourth choice at his home-town club behind Paul Robinson, Jason Brown and Mark Bunn will be as stunned as anybody, having yet to make his debeut for Rovers, and spent most of last season on loan at then League two Roachdale.

The 22-year-old has previously made only five appearances in an England shirt, the most recent being last night’s under 21’s 2-0 victory over Uzbekistan, where Fabio Capello was watching in the stands.

His first cap for the Under‑21s came in November 2008, 24 hours after playing for Northampton in the FA Cup.

“It was pretty surreal. The team had a few injuries and I was only told about being called into the squad at lunchtime the day before the game. I thought I was going to be joining up as cover to sit on the bench, but after half an hour Joe Lewis had to go off so I ended coming on for my debut,” Fielding said.
