Heybridge Swifts soared into the Bostik North play-off zone thanks to a superb 4-1 home win over high-flying Canvey Island tonight.

In-form striker, Matthew Price, bagged a hat-trick as Jody Brown’s men moved into sixth spot, defying the odds after an exhausting backlog of fixtures.

Just two days after securing a hard-earned 1-0 away win at Cheshunt, normal service resumed with the Swifts racing into a 2-0 lead inside the first quarter of the game.

Midfielder Harrison Chatting broke the deadlock in the 19th minute, and Price bagged his first to double the hosts’ lead just two minutes later.

Price added further goals in the 61st and 63rd minutes to complete his hat-trick, and put the Swifts out of sight at 4-0 up.

Martin Tuohy pulled a goal back for Canvey Island via a 70th minute penalty, but it was too little too late for the visitors, in front of a good crowd of 285 at Scraley Road.

HEYBRIDGE: Jessup, Ramon, Cawley, Abdulla, Henshaw, Baker, Chatting, Eyong (sub Griffiths, 82), Price (sub Callander, 78), Krasniqi (sub Ashford, 88), Gardner.
