Lowestoft Town are working on a deal which would see Josh Dawkin sign on loan for the rest of the season.
The former Norwich City striker’s loan spell came to an end this week but talks are taking place with parent club, Braintree, to discuss the possibility of extending the deal.
The Trawlerboys saw two more matches postponed this week as games against Kingstonian and Canvey Island fell foul of the weather. With the Blues having to fit 24 league games in the space of three months they are going to need as many able bodies in the squad as possible and joint boss Ady Gallagher hopes a deal for Dawkin can be struck.
“I know we are looking at extending that one – that will obviously be down to Braintree because he is their player,” he said. “The chairman is talking to them and hopefully we can come to an arrangement which would see Josh stay with us for the rest of the season. We will see.”
As they hope to secure the services of one forward, the Blues lost another when Sam Newson was recalled early from his loan spell by Needham Market.
The striker has found first team opportunities hard to come by but Gallagher admitted he was a player they would have preferred to keep.
“He was recalled by Needham Market and it’s a shame because it’s been a frustrating period for him,” he said. “He came to us at a time when we went on a winning run and he was cup tied in the Premier Cup so he has not been able to feature too much.
“I think he enjoyed his time at the club and we would not rule anything out in the future. It would be best for him to get some games and we will review it again at the end of the season.”
Lowestoft are hopeful their home clash against Cray Wanderers tomorrow will go ahead despite the recent cold snap.
Groundsman David Page and several volunteers worked hard to clear the pitch on Thursday of any snow and the club is confident the match will go ahead if the thawing continues.
“I’ve spoken to one of the groundsmen and they are optimistic at the moment,” added Gallagher. “A lot will depend on what happens obviously between now and Saturday though.”
