“Off the Boil City” is a countdown clock recording the days until the Canaries regain their rightful place in the football hierarchy – The Championship.

And we’re sure that Town fans will be Delia-lighted to pass the old enemy coming up if our new manager takes his Jewells up to the Premiership next season.

The clock starts now and gets going in earnest in August. You can see it on the homepage of our sports section.

The only question is, of course, when the sands of time will run out for Norwich City.

Will they be relegated by Easter . . . or will they carry on in limbo like this year’s relegated teams until the last match of the season. Time will tell.

  • I note with some disappointment, and no little embarrasment, the Relegation Countdown Clock which has now appeared on the Evening Star websites sports pages. I think I speak for the vast majority of Ipswich Town fans in saying that it does the reputation of the club and its fans no favours (and doubtless, a number of them have probably already expressed the same thoughts). The reaction to this has been uniformally negative- I've yet to see a comment on any of the regular websitestwitter to indicate otherwise. Whilst I'm sure the intention is to provide light-hearted fun, it misjudges the general mood of the supporters at this time. Norwich winning promotion merely highlighted the need for our own club to "get its house in order" first, before we can reasonably start to try and find reasons to laugh at those up the road. They will provide plenty of scope for that in their own way, given time.

It is drivel such as this, along with other online exchanges making increasingly derogatory comments that are ruining the long-standing competitive sporting rivalry between the supporters and teams that's enjoyed on and off the pitch. From my experience, most supporters would wish both sides to be in the same division in order to enjoy the derby matches! There'll be something missing next season without them. But, all fans would also want their team to win both and to finish above the other in the league, if only by one place, for the bragging rights for another year. Come on Green'Un, drag yourself out of the gutter and do some positive reporting on your team to get the fans motivated to get another East Anglian side into the Premership, where they both belong.

  • Oh no you don't not in my name or that of my club! Norwich looked like idiots when they did this. Why on earth would you do something like this except to make us look like idiots...

  • I can't decide if this is straightforward idiocy or a malicious attempt by Norwich based Archant to make us look as stupid as Norwich did when they played this same trick. Either way, get rid.

  • Gosh, what an incredibly inept article, soaked in bitterness, clad in jealousy, and no doubt written by someone clinging to the long lost glory days of ITFC. You could have made so much better use of this digital space and written an article that counted down the days to ITFC joining NCFC in the Premiership, which is surely what we all want - local derbies in the top flight. Oh well...

  • Keep it up. i am so looking forward to waving this piece of nonsense in your face when we (once again) confound all the doom-mongers and finish in a respectable mid-table position. Whilst you binners have another season of dismal failure, having once again paid over the odds for inappropriate, over-hyped players! What you need is a spell in League One.

  • What do Norwich City fans + Ipswich Town fans have in common? They're both absolutely obsessed with Norwch City !

  • Oh dear. While I don't rate Norwich's chances of staying up, their rightful place is exactly where they are, they earned it. The kind of mentality displayed here is that of the poorer cousin, yet the history books clearly show that we are the more successful club. Whoever came up with this rather embarassing idea is clearly out of touch.

  • What is the point in this? Why are we worried about Norwich? They have had two fantastic seasons under a very good manager. They may have been rather lucky to get where they did last season, but who really cares whether they stay up next season? What really matters is what Town do and if Jewell can get us back up there it would be nice if they were too so the derby game was back.

  • Please don't stoop to their level with this countdown. It's the sort of mickey-mouse pathetic stunt Norwich would do to us!

  • Oh dear , oh dear EADT!! We Town fans know you are owned and run by the norwich based Archant - but do we REALLY have to stoop to norwich's level with this relegation countdown clock? Im sure all Town fans will be very happy to watch what unfolds as the season gets underway. Ipswich fans are not like norwich fans. Seeking revenge is their baggage, not ours !

  • I think i can speak on behalf of most sensible ITFC fans in saying that this is pathetic, embarrassing, quite likely to backfire and should be removed immediately.

  • Have to wonder where the countdown to Ipswich's return to their rightful place is? Just seems ever so slightly childish to be focused on what a club in the league above are doing.
