I do not think I saw Ivan Campo play this season but, if reports are to be believed, he did not have the passion or drive that he showed at his previous club (was it Bolton?). I guess Roy's decision to off load both him and Tommy Miller will be applauded by the majority of Town supporters. Miller has obviously "gone back" a bit from where he was when he was with us previously. I was pleased to see Roy give some of our youngsters a game in the last couple of games albeit to "look at what he has got". At least they had the chance to show their ability to the new manager.
I realise it is only the first month but I for one like what Roy Keane is saying and like what he is doing. As with this time last year I am looking forward to the new season, 2009/2010, with a lot of enthusiasm and hope only this time with a little more experience and a lot more "steel" at the helm.
Anyone else have an opinion?
PS Not sorry to see Norwich drop down because I am a Town supporter through and through but good luck to them. It may do the club a lot of good to "regroup". Also it may suppress some of the arrogance and nonsense spouted by some (not all) of their supporters.
Absolutely. I anticipated Campo would be what we needed to run things from midfield but he never did it for one reason or another. When he did finally get a run in the side he played as a central defender and he was too easily beaten. A combination of MacAuley and one of the youngsters or Bruce is probably our best bet for the future. There are already too many central midfielders on the books so Campo and Miller were both likely to go. The big difference since Roy has taken charge is the team show a much higher work rate, especially off the ball and instead of playing passing football without penetration, they are frequently getting in behind the opposition. It does lead to a lot of hope for next season.
As for mouthy, arrogant budgies, they do seem to be keeping away now for some reason. I think the defining moments for me that sum up the immediate futures for our clubs were these ... narridge appoint Gunny until end of season as 4th or 5th manager in 2 years and Town sack Jim after 3 years in charge and appoint Roy Keane on 2 year contract ... One future looks bright and the other just amusing ... enough said!
Why do we love Gunny so much? Is it for this link ... or this link or is it just because he is actually a likeable bloke who has had a bad time with illness and done good work raising money for charity? Good luck on getting the job for next season, Gunny, and on the less likely hope of being given time to actually build a team.
