Roy Keane and his Ipswich Town signings

WITH Ed Upson signing a new one year contract and Shane Supple about to follow suit there is just one outstanding issue to be sorted from the 13 players whose Ipswich Town contracts expire on June 30.

And faced with a head against heart decision, young midfielder Liam Trotter is set to be ruled by his head and accept a longer Scunthorpe deal than the one-year offer believed to have been made by Blues boss Roy Keane.

The former Northgate School pupil will have a much better chance of playing first team football with the Lincolnshire-based side after doing well for them on loan during the latter part of last term.

Alex Bruce has joined midfielder Upson and keeper Supple in signing new deals while the following will receive their final pay cheque from Ipswich on Tuesday week: Ivan Campo, Dan Harding, Chris Casement, Dean Bowditch, Kurt Robinson, Matt Richards, Billy Clarke, Tommy Miller and Jai Reason.

So we basically know who is going out. But who is coming in?

It is much quieter on this front than in previous years and confirms the way that the new Town boss works.

The Blues media department will naturally take time to adjust to the workings of a new manager and it is understandable that little hard news on the signings front has trickled out of Portman Road.

And little of any substance has filtered through from outside sources about players who might be starting the new season members of Keane’s squad.

Of those named there could be one – possibly two – who might be seriously considered, but as yet there is little to satisfy those thirsting for information on Town’s next central defender, striker and left-sided player.

But this will change.

Up to July 1 players being released are paid by their current clubs, so why make any premature moves and subject yourself to extra expense?

So from that date expect things to start happening and in the meantime take satisfaction from the fact that Keane has settled into his new role in a typically professional way.

And adding wait to the expectation that he will bring success to Portman Road that we all crave.
