Questionable sporting lookalikes and the best website in the world....
It's strange how things can capture your imagination. They stick in your head, rendering you unable to think of much else and have a habit of popping into the already overcrowded brain at the most inconvenient of times.
This is happening to me - I'm seeing lookalikes for sporting personalities everywhere. I blame my colleague and Green 'Un TV star Stuart Watson - who demands only blue skittles and tepid water be served to him while in the GU studio - for sparking this current irksome obession.
Stu unleashed the baby Barack Obama and Robert Earnshaw lookalike on me a while back, and since then I've been determined to find my own stellar doppleganger.
Problem is, I suck at this game. The best I've managed so far is the perhaps unkind similarity between Norwich manager Bryan Gunn and Uncle Fester of Addams Family fame. Average at best, I fear.
Others I've come up with include a red-wine fuelled idea that North Carolina basketball star Tyler Hansbrough echoed cowboy Woody from Toy Story. My friend Merlot can take the credit for that....
I also had the crazy notion that West Ham manager and ex-Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola bore more than a passing resemblance to 70's icon The Fonz, but that looks better in my head than it does in pictures.
I have however, unearthed a lookalike that will become truer with the passage of time. Sunbed-loving ex-Derby manager and current Hull boss Phil Brown will surely end up looking like this in a few years. And no man deserves it more than him.
Elsewhere, through the gift of Twitter, I have stumbled across the best website in the world this week thanks to questlove from hip-hop super group the Roots. Basically, it's an area of the Nike site which allows you to create your own colourways for a range of classic trainers, from the Dunks to the Air Max.
An unfortunate link between trainers and chavs has somewhat ruined it for genuine sneaker fiends in the UK - now is the time to reclaim the humble shoe, one unique colour scheme at a time.
Right, back to work....
Let me know if you have more sporting lookalikes that I should be linking to. Let's face it, they must be better than my efforts....
Cheers!
- I'm still pushing this Twitter thing. Follow me here, and I shall pursue you right back....
