Are we there yet? (Part Three)

As journeys go, this was an eventful one to say the least. On an awful late October evening we had to encounter a torrid of weather before reaching our destination, the aptly named Dripping Pan! On the A12 we encountered our first delay as rush hour travellers decided to partake in some rubber necking before a snow blizzard ground us to a halt near Chelmsford. The mood in the car was lifted when our passenger Jim called Tom to check their whereabouts on the supporter’s coach. “Where are you?” a worried Jim asked, fearing they wouldn’t make kick off with the hold ups. “I’m on the coach,” said Tom. “I know that,” retorted Jim, “but whereabouts?” “Near the front" came Tom’s comical reply. After around four hours we reached our destination after navigating the fine cobbled streets of Lewes to be greeted by the hoards of Leiston followers. What ensued will remain etched, not only on those that were present, but in the history books of Leiston FC. A quite remarkable display both on and off the field with those well known ditty’s being sung on the terraces of ‘Shoes off, if you love Leiston’ and ‘Your getting sacked in the morning’ as well as ‘Do the pigeons know you’re here?’ to a well known Leiston pigeon fancier. After 90 minutes of draining emotion all that was left was a three hour journey home. Funny, it seemed to fly by, probably as we were all on cloud nine.
