Would You Like Some More Of That?

The visit to Stamford Bridge was a refreshing interlude to what at times has been a dull and mundane season.  More than that though I think it has given fresh impetus to the final third of the campaign.

Coming at a time when Town have seemed to consolidate a top half finish at worst, the six thousand travelling fans lucky enough to obtain a ticket were treated to some Premiership quality performances and a cracking atmosphere at the ‘Shed end’. Chelsea actually turned up aswell, in numbers at least, although a severe laryngitis epidemic seemed to have affected their vocal capacity.

But for two world class free kick finishes that would adorn any goal of the season compilation a return fixture at Portman Road next week was certainly not out of the question.

The travelling support that packed the local hostelries also to capacity before and after the game conducted themselves with their usual exemplary and dignified behaviour.  Make no mistake, they knew we had been but would be happy to see us return next season.

After a well received sixth away victory on the road at the Oakwell that return is still a distinct possibility.

The players now look to be responding to the task in hand as well as the fans.  Whether it was the realisation that playing in packed stadiums against some of the worlds best players is within their reach was the catalyst for improvement, or the introduction of John Gorman and his wealth of coaching experience has once more made Town a force to be reckoned with doesn’t matter.

What does matter though is that the renaissance continues on Saturday against Plymouth.  A few more inside ‘The Road’ would not go amiss but a lot more with a positive attitude is a necessity.

The anti Jim banners fireproof or otherwise need leaving in the bottom drawer and the volume in the ground needs to be top drawer.

The opportunity to resurrect this season won’t come again. Let’s not waste it.
