A Tale Of Two Cities
Yes I was at Carrow Road last Sunday and no I don’t want to talk about it.
Highlight of the day?
Breakfast at a Little Chef on the Norwich ring road, enough said.
Wednesday evening saw my prediction of a low attendance and subdued atmosphere following a poor result against the ‘Budgies’ to be more than accurate.
Town’s smallest crowd for two seasons saw the visit of Bristol City and conceding to the visitors in five minutes did little to raise the morgue like volume of support within Portman Road. What followed however saw wave upon wave of attacks with the Robin’s keeper making more than one top drawer save. As I went down for my half time refreshment, it was with an air of optimism for the forthcoming forty five minutes.
That inherent optimism however is not mirrored by all.
I don’t have a pair of rose coloured spectacles and can be as critical as the next person towards individuals, the team, management or the club in general but only when its due but some of the total garbage posted by some so called Ipswich supporters on certain ‘message boards and forums’ I find quite embarrassing. While not wishing to lower myself to interact with their juvenile banter I would suggest that many of them would be better occupied trying to grasp some concept of the English language before airing their views online. Also if entry of season ticket numbers were required to gain access to any of these sites it would be interesting to see how many of its protagonists would survive.
Anyway my optimism was rewarded on Wednesday as Town came out of the traps second half with a desire that the West Countrymen could not cope with.
Bruce’s red card was a bit of a downer but the news that the ‘Budgies’ had lost at Watford completed the evening.
Three days can be a very long time in football but not as long as a season. One Swallow does not a summer make and by the same token one Budgie should not mess up your Christmas.
I’m getting over Sunday already and a win against Cardiff on Saturday will more than aid the healing process, as long as one Bluebird doesn’t conspire to wreck the revival.
Even after Sunday’s victory, Budgie fans would happily sacrifice Delia on a giant chopping board to the God of celebrity chefs just to be where we are now.
The next meeting will be in April by which time a lot of words will have been swallowed and huge portions of humble pie eaten, hopefully Town fans will not have got fat on either.
