Blog: A tragedy if Keane lets Garvan and Wickham go

Last updated: 11/16/2009 1:31:00 PM

IF OWEN Garvan and Connor Wickham follow Jordan Rhodes down Ipswich Town's Exit Alley, I shall want manager Roy Keane's "guts for garters."

The departure of fledgling striker Rhodes has been one of the great tragedies of this despairing Ipswich Town season - if Garvan and Wickham follow it will be simply horrific for our club.

  • if you are going to post a blog make sure it makes sense first... keane can do nothing to stop wickham going other than advise him against it it wont be keanes fault if he goes will it...!! as for garven why shouldnt he go hes useless all he has in his locker as a good pass and even that (as great as it is) is not good enough to make up for his lazy attitude and lack of work definsivly and otherwise he had great potential he hasnt fulfilled it even under magiltion we just didnt have any1 better now we have leadbitter who needs a partner garven most certainly can not fill that role norris might schumi would have that was the mistake letting garven go would not be...get the lazy waster off the wage bill! rhodes leaving was bad he "could" be great but we got good money for him considering the stage he was at and good top ups. and i see priskin as possibly being incredibly good he showed some very good signs last game i see some prolific goal scoring in his future YOU CANT JUDGE KEANE UNTIL HIS JOB IS DONE and he has 1 and a half seasons left not even mystic meg can predict what will happen he hasnt even finished building his team yet.

  • I agree James, you unfortunately get people who no longer understand the rules regarding teenagers. Your comment on Garvan are spot on, and of course Rhodes is scoreing goals in a lower division, he scored a lot for the reserves but what did he do when he came into the firs team. As I imagine you are, I am dissapointed at the start to the season, but Kean has another 18 months, and I would not rule this season out yet.

  • Totally agree with this blog!!! But keane wont care what any town fans think, if any player is not one of his journeymen signings, they are in great danger of being discarded!!!

  • you would agree Ged wouldnt you, as like the originator of this blog you are totally ignorant to the rules and regulations of football - if Connor wants to go we will have absolutely no choice. Garvan - he never kept a full time place last season, as soon as he got his place back his lazy cant be bothered to be here attitude surfaced again - sadly his heart isnt in this game and hasnt been for a long long time before Keane.

  • James I don't know what medication you are on but I definitely would like some. You think we got good money for Rhodes, presumably because you do not know the actual figure - and see something in Priskin that nobody else apart from Keane can detect ... and he cost SEVEN times more... and has yet to score more first team goals than Rhodes. When exactly do you think Keane will have finished building his team? When Town are finished I suppose.

  • To be honest im starting to lose faith in this whole keane business, yes we cannot stop connor from going but we could seem to be making it more for him to stay, other then speculation of where he may or may not go, he is a great young lad with everything to offer as a great footballer, along the same lines as jordan was and still is but unfourntantly not here no more, priskin for me doesnt show his £1.7 million price tag he hasnt hit it of with town and playing up there everyone needs time to settle in but dont we all think this is long enough? Garven given the time to play and believe in him and he could be that football player we all want him to be,but being dropped from the team and never to be featured again, and more than likely not spoken to from keane,is obliviously gonna take its toll on a young player, but then if he is lazy and no good as a player why is he the captain of the Ireland side and seems to be happy there with good performances. but hey i love this club , but please for god sake, keep hold of wickham and lets not let any more good players get away from us, keane may have 18 months left, but has had a good 7 months to build a team and settle them as much as possible.

  • Oh that wonder boy jordan rhodes!! huddersfield got 6 on saturday, how many did that world beater rhodes score? he is now playing in a lower league and hardly setting the world alight, how can anyone think it wasnt good business letting him go? As for connor wickham, well he really does have the potential to be very good indeed, but if he wants to go to a premier league club there is nothing roy keane or we can do about it. The way football is structured at the moment, stinks but its happened to other clubs and the town are no different. having said that, i still believe he will stay.

  • rob you are the most deluded person in the world i think.. we got £850'000 for rhodes plus top ups and sell on as keane recently confirmed. it is common knoledge. which is very good money for an unproven youngster. and rhodes is playing league 1 not championship...any1 with a working pair of eyes can see priskin has the potential to start banging in the goals after his last game, couple more decent runs of play and he will be on fire. although my maths is not great i am reasonably confident that 1.7 million is not 7x greater than 850,000 some one other than rob (as his maths must be even worse than mine) feel free to correct me but i do believe he only cost twice as much and thats without the top ups and sell on.... GET OFF THE DOOM AND GLOOM WAGON AND OPEN OUR EYES TO REALITY

  • James... I think you will find Town got £250,000 for Rhodes, plus various add ons that might ultimately add up to £850,000 given a following wind. Rather than invest time in Rhodes Town have spent money they have been loaned at above market rate by an invisible man on Lisbie (rejected), Stead ('Will never play for this club again') and now Priskin the Magnificent... total cost... circa £3.2million Bit ingenuous to sneer at DIvision 3 football, seeing that is where Town are heading - and where many teams have emerged from in recent years to make Town look ordinary...some of which are now in the Prem

  • I'm assuming most folk that post on here don't reflect the true feelings and have the basic knowledge of most ITFC fans, given the mis-spellings and daft logic often stated. Firstly Rhodes. Yes he was sold on the cheap. Where does this 850,000 keep coming from? Everyone (including the Sky guys at the weekend) said it was around the 250,000 figure and that it was a shock in the football world that we sold (sorry, gave away) him. Granted he hadn't scored loads for our first team, but that was probably due to the fact he wasn't played often! Can't score when on the bench, unless I'm missing something!? This season would have been a productive one for him I'm sure.......... Next up Garvan. Simply NOT lazy, just his style which can give that impression. What is our midfield missing at the moment? Someone who can pass the ball more than 2 feet and score the odd goal. Well that player is currently out of favour! With his range of passing and eye for the odd goal (not to mention set pieces) then I think he is the perfect partner for Leadbitter (the guy who would put his foot in). And as for Wickham. To be fair there isn't anything that keane can do about this one. I think he'll stay in order to play regular football, or at least I'm hoping that. So to sum up. Its simple, play our best young players (those of which that haven't already been shown the door) and give them the chance to prove (actually reinforce!) the point that they can do it............ What was it Keane said at the start of the season? Any average manager can finish midtable in this league!! Well all I can say is I hope thats where we finish, staying up is the first concern. Not as good as he (or our fickle fans) think is he..........

  • rob=canary rhodes was an inital fee of 850,000 you clearly have been reading the nonsense in the so called paper that sugested reading have offered 600,000 double what huderrsfield paid which was labled as incorrect. jordan rhodes and hudersfield have not come out of league 1 ..have not been promoted to the premier league and have not made ipswich look ordinary..nor can it be said ipswich are heading to league one more acuratly on out unbeaten run we are heading away from relegation and you can really make these opinions on a match to match basis for the same reason you would be incorect in saying that newcastle are heading for the premier league..from next week they could lose every game we arent even in january yet. mark all my words copy and paste them into a document and we can continue this debate at the end of the seasson when you will be forced to say things like ..sorry...priskin is awsome...look at the state garven is in now hes awfull at qpr..keanes signings have been great...nice big defender in nxt year n we should be in the play offs instead of 12th...im glad wickham decided to stay shame he didnt score any goals though....wish i was more like you james...you know general things like that

  • Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnn....Ged and Rob skiving off school again....time would be better spent in maths classes

  • This is quite a simple one really. I suspect we have already seen the best of Garvan and if we can get money for him we should do. When he played last season he was very very ordinary. Rhodes was sold to lower league and has done very well but Priskin like it or not scored at this level for Watford so for me I would take his experience over the potential that Rhodes may or may not have realised. Priskin has also looked sharp of late and when he get his shooting boots on we will see what he is all about. Town have always sold players, will always sell players and but you just have to get used to it and move on. I see nobody is citing that we should never have let the prolific Nicky Forster go ? That would be ludicrous yet he scores for fun at lower league outfits !! Oh how we could do with his goals eh ?? This is just an excuse for some more Keane bashing. It will not be a tragedy, a shame yes but not a tradegy

    Steve Jones

  • the 850,000 was not the inital fee as i previously stated and im sure rob will cheer.. how ever it is about 850,000 after appearence fee and then the sell on clause on top of that. either way not good if he gets sold on now especially for only 600,000 and i dont see hudersfield allowing him to go yet anyway be better for us if hudders get promoted and he proves him self in the championship first then goes for a couple of milion
