Mixed emotions for Keane

Last updated: 11/8/2009 9:53:00 AM

IPSWICH Town boss Roy Keane had "mixed emotions" after his side clambered off the Championship basement with a 1-1 draw at Reading.

Jon Stead's ninth minute opener was cancelled out by Simon Church's equaliser, early in the second half, but Town held firm against some sustained Royals pressure to extend their unbeaten run to five matches.

Peterborough's away defeat at Newcastle has seen Town leapfrog Posh and move off the bottom for the first time since late September.

Keane said: "I'm happy with the point. Maybe a draw was a fair result, although Reading had a lot more possession.

"We're unbeaten in five now, which is not a bad run, and it's strange that our last two matches, with a win over Derby and this away draw, have been two of our poorest performances of the last two months!

"Reading are fighting for their lives, but I kept two strikers on at the end. We just didn't pass that well today," added Keane.

  • outplayed by a team who have not won at home for nearly a year. Would it be a tad picky to point out to the man with mixed emotions (and cynical EADT hacks) that Town did 3x better at Reading last season with last year's 'player stock' and last year's manager?

  • A draw at Reading (who incidently have not won at home since January!!!) and keane was happy with a point? Tell you what, his expectations are certainly not very high, suppose he will call it a success season, if town dont finish in the bottom three???

  • what i will say John B is only several occaisions he was in the right place and the right time, something our other strikers have been short of. He had several chances and should have converted, (oh and a great save too from his long range cracker), play him week in week out and i am convinced he will gain that extra confidence to score week in week out.

  • Mr Steroo and Mr Scott. I have been reading your posts for weeks and can honestly say that neither of you have ever said anything positive in any shape or form. I have to ask! Why do you bother because you are clearly not ITFC supporters and probably don't even know where Portman Road is. You obviously have nothing better too do with your time and I feel very sorry for you both as you must lead really boring lives!
