To improve their chances, the Essex club have invited supporters to help with a big snow-clearing exercise at the Weston Homes Community Stadium tomorrow morning.

The back-to-back postponements of the Sheffield United home fixture, and then yesterday’s trip to Walsall, both due to frozen pitches, has left the U’s still waiting to play their first game in February.

Hopefully, rising temperatures should enable Tuesday evening’s game to beat the wintry snap.

And just to make sure, U’s fans have been encouraged to report to the club’s reception at 10am tomorrow morning, preferably equipped with plastic shovels and even wheelbarrows, to assist groundsman David Blacknall and his staff with clearing the pitch of snow.
