JOE Dunne will not be compromising his team’s passing style of play, despite back-to-back defeats at Chelmsford and against Notts County.

Some U’s home fans were frustrated by their team’s reluctance to adopt a more direct approach, during Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat to the Magpies, but not Dunne.

“I heard the crowd shout – ‘get forward, kick it forward, bang it forward’ – but if they want to see that, they should go somewhere else,” insisted Dunne.

“If you want to shout at anybody, shout at me.

“We’ve passed it, and we’ve passed it in every game when the crowd has cheered, and they need to stick with what we are trying to do, because I thought in the second half we were brave enough.

“I’m not frustrated with the players, because they tried to do what I asked them to do.

“Real football people will see that.

“Someone shouted to me – ‘we’re not Arsenal!’ – but what do you want? We are Colchester United and we are trying to do the right things, in terms of what we want to do as a club, bringing our youngsters through, passing the ball,” added Dunne.

The U’s are away at Crewe Alexandra tomorrow.
