The lively wide forward hit the bar with an audacious lobbed effort in the first half.

It therefore took a level of confidence from the 25-year-old to execute a similarly delicate finish in the closing stages to win the match.

“He owed me that after the effort in the first half!” joked Ward. “So we’ll call it quits shall we?”

A player who always wears his heart on his sleeve, Henderson celebrated his strike with a two-footed karate kick on the corner flag that took it clean out the grass.

“I’m an emotional person and whenever I score the passion just runs through me,” said the goal-scorer with a beaming smile.

“It was a kind of kung-fu kick I suppose. I don’t know why I did it, but I’m sure there’s a psychologist out there somewhere that will tell you what it means!

“I thought the referee might book me afterwards, but he just came over to me laughing.”
