COLCHESTER United’s class of 2012-13 are in danger of scoring the fewest number of goals in the club’s history.

The U’s have currently mustered just 25 goals from their first 27 league games – only Saturday’s hosts, Hartlepool, have scored less in League One this term.

The U’s record for the least number of goals scored, in a season, was set by Bobby Roberts’ Third Division strugglers of 1975-76.

They managed just 41 goals in their 46 league games, and were duly relegated back to the fourth tier at the end of that season together with Halifax, Southend and Aldershot. Steve Leslie (sixth league goals) was the leading scorer.

Joe Dunne’s men have only scored two goals in their last seven outings, and their leading scorer remains Jabo Ibehre, who bagged four goals during his loan stay last year.

Meanwhile, a Colchester United XI tasted victory in a friendly fixture at Gillingham yesterday afternoon.

The U’s beat their Kent hosts 3-2, thanks to goals from Jordan Sanderson, Matt Heath and Tosin Olufemi.

Elsewhere, midfielder-cum-defender Bradley Hamilton has extended his loan stay at Chelmsford City, from the U’s, until the end of the season.
