How the EADT reported on the U's 4-0 home win over Stevenage in 2013

Carl Marston recalls a happy Boxing Day when the U’s thumped visiting Stevenage 4-0, back on December 26, 2013:

Goals have never been in short supply, when Stevenage have visited the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

In fact, 18 goals have been scored in Stevenage’s four visits to the U’s, since the Hertfordshire club became a Football League outfit in 2010.

It all began with a humiliating afternoon for the U’s, on Boxing Day in 2011, when Graham Westley’s ruthless Stevenage side thrashed the woeful U’s 6-1.

But since then, the U’s have won each of their last three home games against Borough, following up a 1-0 triumph in October, 2012, with back-to-back 4-0 successes in 2013 and earlier this year, last April.

Here I recall the Boxing Day bonanza of 2013, when the rampant U’s romped to their biggest win under manager Joe Dunne.

This was an impressive response to being hammered 4-0 themselves, by visiting Notts County (then bottom) in their previous home match.

Classy midfielder Craig Eastmond netted a brace of goals, with winger Blair Turgott and striker Jabo Ibehre also on the score-sheet.

Boss Dunne described it as a “wonderful victory,” while his opposite number Graham Westley accused his players of “lacking fight and lacking the basics.”

U’s team (Dec 26, 2013): Walker, Wilson (sub Olufemi, 79), Okuonghae, Eastman, Garbutt, David Wright, Bean, Eastmond, Vose, Ibehre (sub Morrison, 78), Turgott (sub Watt, 72).
