Colchester United have boosted their attacking options with the signing of Rhys Healy, on loan from Cardiff City.
Young gun Healy put pen to paper this afternoon, having impressed the U’s management team with displays for Cardiff City’s under-21 development side.
In fact, he has bagged 23 goals for the Bluebirds’ under-21s since his arrival at the Welsh club in January, 2013.
U’s manager Tony Humes had been keen to increase his attacking options, by finding back-up for leading marksman Freddie Sears, especially as fellow striker Jabo Ibehre is currently sidelined through injury.
Humes said: “Rhys has been watched by quite a few clubs, and we have seen him in under-21 games.
“He is a goalscorer, and we do need back up for Freddie.”
New signing Healy has initially signed on loan until December 20.
He said: “I’ve been down at the training ground (Florence Park) today and it’s a great set-up there and the players have already made me feel really welcome.
“I am really enjoying my time at Cardiff and still have two more years there yet.
“But this is a good chance for me to get out and play first team football and help Colchester up the league table.”
