Colchester United boss John McGreal described his side’s 1-1 draw at Doncaster Rovers this afternoon as “a great point.”

But McGreal did feel that the U’s should have been awarded a penalty late on, for a push on substitute Rekeil Pyke by defender Craig Alcock.

“It was a great game, and a great point for us against the league leaders,” insisted McGreal.

“Once again we got a terrific start with Brennan Dickenson’s goal, his 12th of the season, and I thought we were terrific in the first half.

“We were just disappointed to concede in first-half injury-time, but we came back strongly later in the game and I thought it was a definite penalty.

“I’ve seen it back on the video and had a chat with the referee (David Webb), who said that he thought Rekeil (Pyke) initiated the foul.

“But for me it was a penalty,” added McGreal.

Dickenson blasted home a wonderful opening goal in the 16th minute, to follow up his terrific strike from the previous weekend’s 4-0 home win over Stevenage.

But centre-half Mathieu Baudry headed home a corner, in first-half injury-time, to earn the league leaders a point in their quest for the title.

Doncaster boss Darren Ferguson: “Our performance was unacceptable in the first half.

“We should have won it in the second half, with all our chances, but I think we got away with it in the first half.

“Colchester have the second best home record in the division, and they played well, but my players played like we’d just done enough to win promotion.

“Of course we are promoted but I am looking towards League One now. And I was not very impressed with our first half.”
