Brandon Hanlan marked his Colchester United but with a late equaliser, in tonight’s 1-1 home draw against Chesterfield, although manager John McGreal felt that his side should have taken all three points.

Front-runner Hanlan, on loan from Charlton, flicked home Ryan Jackson’s long throw in the 83rd minute to rescue a point for the U’s, having come on as a 71st minute substitute.

The U’s had fallen behind to Louis Reed’s wonder strike, just before half-time, but they came storming back and both Kane Vincent-Young and Drey Wright hit the woodwork, either side of Hanlan’s equaliser.

McGreal said: “We should be winning this game really, on the number of chances we had in the second half. We had to react to going a goal down at home, for a change, but I thought the lads showed great character.

“We dominated the second half, had numerous chances, hit the woodwork twice and also had a penalty turned down,” added McGreal.
