Right-back Wilson, who was the only ever-present in the U’s starting line-up last season, starting all 50 league and cup games, has penned a new deal after his current contract was set to expire this summer.

He follows in the footsteps of left-sided specialist Ben Coker, centre-half Matt Heath and veteran Karl Duguid, who have all signed new contracts in the last week or so.

U’s boss John Ward said of Wilson’s new deal: “He is a model professional and one for the younger players to look up to.”

The likes of Ben Williams, John-Joe O’Toole, Magnus Okuonghae and Kayode Odejayi are all mulling over offers of new contracts, with their deals all expiring this summer, although they might delay their final decisions for several weeks.
